booking suits
How much notice do I need to give when hiring a suit?
With Wedding suits we recommend you book as soon as possible. Whilst stock is not normally a problem, the advantage of booking early is that once a suit is booked at Formal Affair, the prices are then held for the rest of your wedding party, whenever they come in to book. For Evening Wear, whilst we can often accommodate immediate orders, to guarantee availability and and a wide choice, reservations should ideally be made at least a week in advance
When are the suits available for collection and required for return?
For weekend weddings, collection is normally Thursday afternoon (from 3pm) and return on Monday (before 1pm). For evening suits or weekday weddings, collection is generally the day of, or day before the function and return the next working day. This is a general guide but if you have different requirements, because you are travelling or going on a cruise etc, have a chat with the staff and they will be happy to come to an arrangement with you.
When do I pay for the suit?
A deposit is required when a suit is booked, the outfit is then reserved and you will have secured the current hire charge for you and your party. The balance is then due 3 WEEKS BEFORE COLLECTION.
Do I need to leave a security bond?
Yes, a minimum of £50 per outfit will be required or £100 per Wedding Party. This is fully refundable when the complete outfit is returned on time. This security deposit can be taken as a charge on a credit card or a cheque (as long as the amount is covered by a cheque card) or cash.
Can we book in one branch and collect/return in another?
Yes, with wedding suits especially, this is quite usual. If you wish your suit can be booked in one branch, collected in another and returned to yet another! Just let the staff know of your plans at the time of booking or collecting. There is no charge for this service.
What happens if I damage the suit or accessories?
Don't worry, for a small additional cost an ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE WAIVER will be automatically added to your order. (Conditions apply, ask in store for details).
We want to hire suits from Formal Affair, but some of the wedding party are not near one of your branches.
No problem. We supply thousands of suits every year to people we have never seen. Just tell the staff at your branch and they will give you a SELF MEASUREMENT FORM AND GUIDE, for those unable to to get to a branch, alternatively you can download a from this website. If you require any further help this can be easily done on the telephone. However, if at any stage the individuals concerned are passing one of our branches, get them to pop in and have their measurements confirmed
Do all the members of my wedding party need to come for their fitting at the same time?
We normally recommend that the Groom, Bride and possibly the Best Man come in first and take their time trying on as many different suits and accessories as they like. Shirts and shoes will also be available to try on, so you can see exactly how you will look on the big day. When you have decided on a certain outfit, we can then discuss what the other members of the party will wear. They can come in at a later stage either on their own or with you. You are more than welcome to visit us at any time, however from January to June we are busy on Saturdays (especially between 11am and 4pm). So why not make an appointment or call in during the week, this will minimise any waiting. Most of our branches are also open on Sundays by appointment only, if you would like more details phone your local branch.
Not all the members of the wedding part are happy about wearing tails - does this mean nobody can?
No, not at all. Most of our tails have alternative short and 3/4 length jacket versions, so those uncomfortable about the idea of wearing tails can hire these instead. They will still feel part of the main wedding party and ensure the photographs still look good. However, it is often the thought of the top hat that makes people unsure about wearing tails - if this is the case do not worry as top hats are not essential and these days tend to be carried rather than worn
We are going abroad, and will need our outfits for several weeks - will it be too expensive to hire?
Not at Formal Affair. If you need suits for between 6 and 10 days there is just a £5 additional charge. (£10 in June, July, August and September). For periods between 11 and 13 days a 25% charge, between 14 and 21 days a 50% charge and for between 22 and 28 days a double hire charge. Please contact your local branch for a detailed quotation
